BMW 435i Test by Chris Harris

BMW 435i coupe tested by Chris Harris. BMW was talking about placing the coupe models under even numbers for nearly a decade, it is not a surprise to me. BMW mentioned that, coupe models will be branded with even and sedan models will be branded odd numbers. This enables to differentiate the coupe models more easily and increase the competition, in other words, Mercedes E-Coupe will have a 4-Series instead of 3-Coupe. However, this branding is becoming more complicated but I appreciated BMW's 4-Series decision.

I agree with Chris Harris, 4-Series’s interior is the same as the 3-Series, nothing really special but Ferrari does the same for their whole range of cars. It is extremely expensive to produce individual interiors for each model. That era is finished, unfortunately due to increasing costs and tougher competition forces car manufacturers to manufacture similar cars. Every car brand does this, so don't start complaining to me. If you don’t share part in this world, you will be bankrupted!

Chris is right with the numbers, 435i less torque than 1M but, it is 1-Series vs 4-Series. 1-Series coupe looks outdated, whatever horsepower BMW puts inside the 1-Series, I will never like it. And performance is not everything, in my opinion fuel efficiency and daily usability is more important. We never utilise the whole potential of any car, so the important thing how drivable is the car. And my opinion, BMW offers the best (in its class) steering wheel, brake pedal feelings and perfect weight distribution is a mass produced car. And also, the 4-Series is a simple and elegant car. 4-Series is not a car for posing, especially you can have a 435i and go around everywhere and no one will look at you :)

I would definitely buy a 4-Series, even though I can find some annoying bits inside the cabin. Until Audi introduces the new A5, 4-Series is the king.

I think I could never be a car journalist :) No one really bothers with the gaps inside the panel.

BMW 435i is powered by a 3-lt turbo petrol engine with 306 HP and 400 Nm of torque. It is coupled with ZF 8-speed automatic gearbox. The top speed is 250 km/h as usual and only needs 5.5 seconds to reach 100 km/h.
