Interview with Ian Cook, Pop Bang Colour

Today I was with Ian Cook known as Pop Bang Colour for an interview. I was lucky to have an interview with him, probably ten years later, he will be so busy and famous it will take ages to contact with him. Why I said this? Ian draws his paints without the usual brush. He uses something else! Remote controls cars and tyres. Yes, all his paints are done by them. In addition, he is the only person on earth draws like this.

Therefore, I am not surprised how his work became so popular in last couple of years. He created a new dimension in art, no one else achieved before. And I pretty sure that His unique talent is going take place in art history, he will become more famous and ten years later I have to wait for months to have an interview with him.

I cannot say I am an art person and judge the paints. I am just a normal person, no talent for arts. However, when I see his works, I cannot imagine how he creates so many details with just remote control cars and tyres. We all can have these materials very easily but I am pretty sure that, we cannot paint something proper. Controlling the remote control and constructing story in paint is a very complicated process but he achieves this perfectly.

He works is not limited with paintings, also has contemporary sculptures. I had chance to see his works and took some pictures. They are also amazing, I think this type of talent comes from birth. People like Ian have these abilities, receiving the properly education makes them perfect.

Bentley Time

Last week, after my Lamborghini trip I went to HR Owen Bentley London. I was expecting to catch the new Bentley Continental GT V8 but I was too late! However, the rest of the cars in the dealer were worth to see.

Especially the Mulsanne is my favourite piece. Like in Arnage, it reflects the Bentley heritage and combines with the modern technology. And they told me that, despite its size Mulsanne is still a driver’s car and offers sporty handling when needed!

Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4

Last week, I visited the HR Owen Lamborghini dealer in London to see the new Lamborghini Aventador. This car replaces the outgoing Murcielago! And you won’t miss it.

Aventador is a state of art car, every bit inside the car is designed from the scratch. The body is from carbon fibre and Lamborghini worked with Boeing during the research & design stage. The new 700 PS V12 engine is totally new, the previous V12 had similar stroke and bore values with outgoing models, but this one does not share anything with previous engines. Like its carbon fibre body, it is totally a new engine. The gearbox; the current trend is attaching a dual clutch gearbox to engine. Ferrari did it, Mercedes did it and some other brands did it as well. It works brilliant but Lamborhini wanted to develop a new transmission with single clutch automatic and it should not be annoying while you are driving around the town. Eventually, they made it! This brand new superb auto gearbox shifts gears in 50ms in Corsa mode and achieves this by a single clutch. Another new technology with Aventador is the push rod suspension. Normally, when you buy a car you will have the suspension positioned as vertical, and you can see this very easily with each car on the road. However, Lamborghini installed Formula 1 style push rod suspension to reduce the body roll and increase the handling. According to Lamborghini, Aventador is the first mass production car with push rod suspension. Push rod suspension is, the suspension is positioned horizontally, you may see them on photos. Finally the acceleration, it accelerates 100 kph (62 mph) in 2,9 sec. This is 0,1 slower than Bugatti Veyron! Just imagine the lightness of the Aventador. And achieves 350 kph (217 mph).

The design might seem similar to outgoing Murcielago but much aggressive and better looking. I never liked the Murcielago that much. But, Aventador is amazing, this is the only car on market, which looks very quick while it is stand still. The jet plane style exterior and interior design made the car charming. As usual, the doors are opening into air and getting inside is really hard. But this a Lamborghini, never forget it.

Hopefully, it doesn’t look that Audi and you have the feeling of driving a jet plane. The instrument panel is full LCD and there is not dials, which I really don’t like. It kills the passion of a sports car and makes it less desirable and turns into a Play Station game. I really wish to see dials on instrument panel. Lastly, the engine start button is under a red switch. You need to move the switch and run the engine!

Lamborghini did a great job and did not spoil the car with too much of Audiness.

Super Bowl 2012 Commercials

This year there are many Super Bowl commercials aired. Today I am posting some of them and in following days, I will be posting the rest. There are many car commercial this year and I decided to divide them into different posts.

In my opinion, the Chevy Silverado commercial is really creative one. The Maya calendar and robustness of Silverado is integrate in a very good way. And the others are Suzuki, Kia. This Kia commercial is a part of the previous one!

New Kia Optima

I hope you have finished watching five hours of Adriana Lima's Super Bowl ads, you are ready for this. Five years ago, Kia was not a brand to be desired for many people. It was a brand good for inferior cars. This means, you cannot afford to buy a better brand and you need a car, eventually you end up with Kia.

However, things have changed! After the new design team, Kia revised it whole model range and amend the perception to global market. They started to offer much better looking cars, distinctive campaigns, improved the production quality, offer more features. Honestly most of the Kia range looks really nice! Especially the new Optima.

I was waiting for the full details of Optima to be released and see its features. First of all, it has a great design that can compete with Ford Mondeo or VW Passat. Unlike old days, the new Optima offers new technologies as well. Six-speed automatic, 2.0-lt petrol engine that produces 165 PS and 1,7-lt diesel engine produces 134PS, six airbags, electric memory seat adjustment, panoramic roof, heated and cooled seat and eco mode. Some of these features are standard in other brands but it is surprising to see them in a Kia.

Kia never used to offer these technologies or this type of distinctive design. My personal opinion for Optima is worth to try. At least a test drive just to see what the have achieved. I think Kia deserves this.

Özellikle yeni tasarım ekibi sayesinde Kia ürünleri çok daha çarpıcı tasarımlara sahip olmaya başladı, ürünler daha rekabetçi özellikle sunmaya başladı ve genel olarak üretim kalitesi arttı.  

Özellikle Optima veya Magentis modeli ile Ford Mondeo veya VW Passat gibi pazarda ki önemi rakiplerin karşısına ciddi bir tasarımla ortaya çıktı. Gelişme sadece tasarımla sınırlı değil! 2.0-lt benzinli motoru 165 beygir ve 1,7-lt dizel motor ise 134 beygir güç üretmekte, panoramik cam tavan, hafızalı ve elektrik ayarlı ve ısıtma-soğutma sistemli koltuklar, altı ileri otomatik vites, altı hava yastığı gibi pazarda ki diğer markaların sunduğu özellikleri Optima/Magnetis ile sunmaya başladı. 

Açıkçası, Kia taraftarı hiçbir zaman olmadım ama şunu da unutmamak gerekir ki Kia'nın son dönemde ki atağına saygı duymak lazım. Kısa bir sürede bu kadar gelişme, göz ardı edilemez bir başarı. Bu yüzden de Kia Optima/Magentis deneme sürüşünü hak ediyor!

Interview with Al Clarke

I have in UK for nearly three years for my studies. During this time, there are some important moments that changed my life. One of this moment is MIPAA. MIPAA is motoring industry public affairs association, which was founded on 1968. However, I met with MIPAA through twitter during last summer. With just a hash tag #mipaa, and then I entered into a new world. 

Later on, I attended my first event on June. I still remember the Al's phone call and his greeting in Audi Quattro Rooms. Since that time, I attended many events and met with many people from automotive industry. This helped me a lot, honestly worth to many early trains from Birmingham. And everything started with hash tag on twitter #mipaa.

After all these time, I wanted to help to increase the awareness of MIPAA and thank to Al for his helps. So, yesterday I had an interview with him in London. We talked about MIPAA, Mayor of London Boris Johnson's award, future of social media, working in Ferrari. The rest of the conversation is on YouTube.
