A new Bentley Continental for poor people

Finally, Bentley is going to offer a reasonable priced car :) For long decades Bentley was only purchased by really rich people. It was a symbol wealth, traditional sports with British heritage. Anyway time is passing and iPod generation people is looking for something else and Bentley’s uncle Audi decided to inherit a new engine to Continental models.

In 2012, Bentley is going to offer 4,0lt V8 engine in Continental models with “reasonable” prices, this is my suggestion. In addition to this, there would be double clutch gearbox (DSG) available. As far as I know, as the engine becomes more powerful it needs heavier transmission to cope with huge amount of torque. And I also know that DSG gearbox is heavier than conventional automatics, so this new model might have some extra weight. Anyway, DSG is very good decision for Continental family. This gearbox changes gear seamlessly and it offers the F1 pleasure in your daily car.

Continental Family with V8 engine will generate very respectful demand. Okay, that will be the slowest Continental but also it will be cheapest one.

Stig, Tigs, Igst, Gsti, Stig = Ben Collins

Since last seven years automotive industry was looking for an answer to a very important question! That’s not lowering CO2 emissions or selling more cars to people who already own one. Their main problem was The Stig. He was the person or something which can push the limits of any object with four wheels attached to an engine. He was the TopGear’s top secret mission. His identity was much better protected than Intel’s new CPU technology.

But the dream end up quicker than everyone expected. As we all know that, Ben Collins did not like his pay check and started writing a book. Actually I couldn’t get that point. He wrote a book while being Stig. Okay, his book will not be nominated for Nobel Awards but he wrote a book. Many people cannot manage to write one page of something and he wrote book and at the same time he kept working. Besides his ability to pushing limits of cars, he is very well at writing also.

Unfortunately I did not buy his book yet but you can find it very easily. The Man in White Suit and you can order from Amazon or from Blackwell. I am planning to read the book in couple weeks. I am sure it will be a very book to read!

If you are not satisfied by the log book of The Stig, you can hear his voice and watch his face on FifthGear. On their last episode (Season 17, Episode 11) Ben Collins was able to talk and we were able to see him. He was also sarcastic about his previous occupation in BBC and complained for being silent for seven years. Actually we didn’t miss something very exciting!

As usual, FifthGear assigned him very interesting and pointless duties, like driving drag car and trying to achieve some lap time. I am pretty sure that it will be more boring!

A new taste from Buick

As you might notice I don’t write about US industry that much, as I don’t have time left writing about Mercedes-Benz. But now there is something very interesting, sudden and special. Buick (GM’ brand) has never been my favourite or close to favourite brand with interesting cars named similar to Croissant. But this time Buick revealed something very special, of course they are not going to offer a car called Tiramisu, they are going to produce 1,4lt turbo charged four cylinder engines with 140 horse powers (200 nm of torque). That’s excellent news for US auto industry but the engine will be available in 2012! At that time, VW might be producing engines 0,4lt with 200 horse powers.

At least GM is trying their best to engage with global world! I really appreciated their decision but they should have done it much earlier! Unfortunately there is no point to have a huge V8 engine only capable of producing 300 horse powers.

I hope one day they will be producing small diesel engines in US market! By the way Croissant inspired car is called LaCrosse. Actually, LaCrosse looks excellent for Buick. It is out of league of Buick! Believe me if you stick an Audi logo in front this car, it would sell much more :)

New VW EOS (Finally!)

Finally ugly looking VW EOS is being facelifted! Murat Günak’s design EOS was the first coupe/cabrio VW model unlike Günak’s iconic design Peugeot 206, EOS was not looking that good! I tried many times to like it but it was nearly impossible! Hopefully VW realized this problem and they face lifted the EOS.

Now it is looking much better and completing the VW Group design concept. And also includes the reflexive leather which is also available in BMW 3 Series Cabrio, this leather reflect the sun light and prevents your body parts to have “cabrio car sun burn”. And it also features regenerative braking technology which is charging your battery while you are braking and reduces CO2! The rest is same with other VW cars, 1,4lt turbo engine from 122 horses to 210 horses and diesel is 2,0lt with 140 horses.

Actually it is very well packed car for its price and for a coupe/cabrio! Unlike first generation, it will receive more attention.

Google Android Car

Since 2000 Google became a part of our daily life and we cannot live without it. Google also know this very well and releases new application all the time to strength our relationship. Their last attempt Google Android is an important signal for our future.

This Linux based mobile operation system is an open source system, which means you have the codes and if you know enough programming, your washing machine can be controlled by Google Android. From this point of view, it is very clear that Google will be in everywhere in following years. And we all know that Google is becoming part of automotive life but taking steps very slowly and carefully.

Google Earth and Google Search are now available in BMW and Audi but this is just the beginning. In following years, Google or a car manufacturer will release Google Android Car! This will be running in our navigation screen and like today we will be controlling everything from there. I don’t think Google will interfere with engine management. But they will take a place in human-machine interface. As Android is free and Google has a better reputation than Microsoft, cars with Google Android is not something very utopic! In addition to this, I am pretty sure that we would be able to install application to our car’s navigation screen!

Just remember the mobile phones ten years ago ;)

World's heaviest iPhone applicaton

Ettore Bugatti once said “Bentleys are the world’s fastest trucks”. During 1930s Bentley was known by its extra weights! And this never changed for decades, Bentley is still very heavy and very fast. Bugatti did not forget to mention their speed! Now Bugatti is a very fast truck thanks to its huge engine and gearbox, I cannot say it is a light weight car.

Bentley’s obsession with weight continued on computer world also. Recently they have released an iPhone application. Unlike other application it is 280 MB! That’s heavy weight for computer world. Like their cars, weight is a way of comprising for more comfort. All Bentley’s are heavy weighted but they always offer the most exquisite quality to its customers. They have same idea on their iPhone application also.

It is the one of the best designed iPhone application, especially the quality of high definition videos and photos are amazing. You cannot find detailed information about their cars, it is a mobile catalogue for iPhone. Hopefully despite its heavy weight, application is working very smoothly like a Continental GT Speed!

Maybach Coupe

I can clearly remember the day when I first saw the Maybach. It was 2004 and it was unforgettable moment for me. However Maybach’s future was not that exciting, after Rolls Royce Phantom’s appearance Maybach lost its market share suddenly. It was excellent car with lack of passion. Honestly, Maybach offers more sophisticated technologies than Rolls Royce but Maybach is mainly based on old Mercedes S Class! Especially the interior is exactly an old Mercedes S Class.

Therefore it did not take long time to release the reality of Maybach by consumers and they moved to Rolls Royce. What they have done is the right thing to do. When you have chance to buy a Rolls Royce, you should not focus on Maybach. Many people thought like this and Maybach sales come close to zero. There are still rumours about Maybach’s future and it is a huge question mark. As Rolls Royce getting better and better, Maybach is getting worse and worse.

Recently Mercedes focused on Chinese market to sell excess Maybachs and that’s a very good idea. At least one percentage of China decides to buy a Maybach, Mercedes can clear out the whole warehouse.

But there is good news for Maybach a coupe is coming! Yes, Maybach coupe will be produced but not from Mercedes. Companies called Xenatec will be producing Maybach coupe cars and selling from € 675 000! Price is a bit high but Maybach couple looks amazing. Just forget the boring looking stretched limo, this is something totally different. It is real substitute for Bentley Continental, Rolls Royce Drophead Coupe! It looks amazing, I think Mercedes should have done it earlier.
