Forgotten beauty, VW Phaëton

Phaëton; for many of you this word does not mean anything, or you just remember something but that's not clear! Phaëton is coming Greek Mythology, however VW decide to honour this mythological value with a car which cannot be remembered by many people. VW Phaëton is similar to brands which were forgotten in department stores. Places like Harvey Nichols, Harrods, Saks Fifth Avenue or Selfridges there are millions of brands and we cannot even remember many of them after we left the store. Sometimes those brands which cannot be remembered might be the best designed one. Like in automotive business, fashion business has its emperors and anything new to this jungle has to do much to gain a place!

In Phaëton case things are bit different! It was not the fault of Phaëton, it was being badged as VW. Unlike contemporary fashion brands, VW is very well known but its product is suffering to be forgotten. Unfortunately, VW brand is not perceived like Mercedes for luxury segment, therefore people don't consider this as an option to buy. However this forgotten car had always very remarkable design, now with the face lift it became one of the best designed car on its segment. Actually, it is much better looking that Audi A8, sorry!

F Segment cars; Mercedes S Class, BMW 7 Series, Maserati Quattroporte, Jaguar XJ and Audi A8 are the players in this segment. As you can imagine, competition is really tough! Similar to haute coutre business! As you expected the king of this market is Mercedes S Class, despite it looks too traditional many people still adore this car. Maserati Quattroporte is the playboy car of this segment, actually this is the only car which has a proper soul in it. But it does not offer the sophisticated toys like in Mercedes. And we know the Jaguar, it is Jaguar :) Audi A8 is trying everything to compete with BMW and Mercedes but it does not have so much competitive power but there are many people who loves it. And honestly, A8 is very good car.

The Phaëton, I don't know why since it was first revealed I liked this car. There was something different in this car, may be it was the new car in this segment, may be its unique technologies like human friendly climate control. But it could not compete with its rivals and became a icon for VW.

However the new facelifted model is totally something different. Actually it is more than face lift, this Phaëton look gorgeous! Especially the production quality inside is superb and the front grille is exquisite. Also it has many technologies put inside.

I think if you wish to buy something different and reliable, you should check Phaëton! It is really worth every word. Like the brand which we forgot in department store :)

Mercedes SLS AMG with a DVD Changer

Mercedes SLS AMG, the most important thing for Mercedes nowadays. There is nothing more important than the SLS, in every country Mercedes is doing a PR campaign, special events, social networking activities and many things!

As I mentioned earlier, I never liked the McLaren Mercedes SLR or SLS AMG. My all time favourite is CLK GTR! These models are just replicas of 300SLR and very bad replicas. Actually I am not writing these to complain about SLS's terrific design. I am writing this to highlight a super ultra pointless features of SLS AMG.

A car which is delivering more than 570 horsepower with double clutch transmission and reaching one hundred kilometers less than four seconds does not have standard ceramic brakes, in terms of Mercedes C-BRAKE! Wake up Mercedes, this is a not a diesel E Class, you are trying to compete with Ferrari, Lamborghini and other super car brands. And you are not offering ceramic brake as standard! Mercedes claims, SLS AMG has a very short braking distance! Really? I guess, if you buy the ceramic brakes it will have a very short braking distance.

I know cost is very important for manufacturing but your are not manufacturing A Class or something like that. Mercedes is asking huge amount money for something which does not have a proper brakes! But you will have something which is extremely important, extremely vital! A DVD changer :) Yes, you will the most stupid feature in one most of the most expensive car on earth, a DVD changer.

This means SLS AMG is so boring that, you have to have a DVD "changer", one DVD is not enough, so that you will find something more interesting the SLS AMG :) On the other hand, due to safety you cannot watch DVD while driving. So what are you going to do with that pointless machine !?!

None of the Mercedes PR activities, I did not hear any word called aluminium! This car is the first mass product aluminium Mercedes and they don't say it anywhere! Why? Should people find out?

And lastly, this car can only rev up to 6800 rpm! Hello! Ferrari 458 can climb up to 9000 rpm, this is the super car market. You must rev more! Mercedes A Class can rev up to 6800 rpm. So what is the point of placing a rev meter which is showing 9000 rpm :)

Again, Mercedes thought about a super car and ruined by passion :) Honestly, I would definitely buy a Ferrari 458 or Porsche 911 Turbo S or Lamborghini Gallardo instead of SLS AMG.

A new Audi !

Audi and Quattro (four wheel drive system); it is very hard to explain their relationship or try to find something similar. I guess the most similar one would be Pamela Anderson and her silicon boobs! With Pamela, nobody cares about silicone and without silicone, we will feel the lack!

It is the same with Audi, it should be with Quattro. However it is not that easy to offer Quattro in ever model. They are technical difficulties but Audi always introduces each new model with Quattro and later on, offer the models without silicon, sorry without Quattro.

Today I found something in Audi's Website, it was the Audi store. Like Ferrari store, you can live with Audi in your daily life. Even your kid can experience the Audi! The pedal car Audi and it looks magnificent from every angle. You cannot express the Audi soul better than this :) But they forgot something, this pedal car is probably rear wheel drive! So what? Actually it suppose to have three differentials which will enable to offer Quattro! Quattro for kids? Yes! As I mentioned, Audi is Quattro and every thing they offer, it should be some essence of Quattro soul. For a pedal car, they had the opportunity to offer. Ferrari did this with its pedal car! It is a small F1 car :)

Alfa Romeo MiTo Diesel: Minimize consumption, maximize pleasure

MiTo; Alfa Romeo's one of the best looking car and probably the best looking car in small hatch market. I do know that Alfa Romeo has a bit more reliability than a fake iPhone but that was the past. Now Alfa Romeo is in a new era, we can see this from their new engine range.

Especially the diesel! Yes, Alfa Romeo and diesel sounds similar to chips and chocolate but world has changed, people are looking for diesel engines even in their sports car. Therefore, Alfa Romeo MiTo is offering a 1,6lt diesel engine. I know this is not a something very unusual but when I focused on details, it was unbelievable.

This ordinary 1,6lt diesel engine is offering unordinary amount of torque, 320nm! What is torque, you might be saying! It is a bit complicated to explain but it is a huge amount for a such small car. BMW 318d has the same amount of torque from 2,0lt diesel engine. You imagine the rest, this MiTo is a new era for diesel power! Words are useless to define the enjoyement of this huge amount of torque in a small car. This is like a super computer at the size mobile phone :)

When Alfa Romeo couples this diesel engine with double clutch auto transmission, that would be the best car can be bought on earth :) Minimize consumption, maximize pleasure :)

Bugatti 16C Galibier and its friends

Bugatti recently revealed their four door sedan, Bugatti 16C Galibier. I think we should not say sedan to a car which is producing one thousand horsepower! When Bugatti puts this car on production, it will be the most powerful sedan has ever been produced. However Bugatti is not planning to produce 16C Galibier until Veyron is on production. Their plan is to produce Galibier after the Veyron is finished.

Recently, some people saw the Galibier near Molsheim, France (Bugatti HQ). However, I noticed something from the pictures. This car is looking very similar to BMW 5 GT and Porsche Panamera. Yes, these cars are just costing no more than a Bugatti gear lever but their similarity is very interesting. Like Veyron, Galibier has the identical Bugatti DNAs in its design but product extension strategies are obsessed, they started to look very similar to each other.

Therefore, I have posted the pictures of Porsche Panamera, BMW 5 GT and Bugatti 16C Galibier. Panamera is the best for price and performance! One thousand horse power is very exciting but price tag is so depressing :)

Two foreigners in forbidden city, Jaguar & Land Rover

In 2008, Ford started to sell everything under its brand. Land Rover and Jaguar were one of the toughest sales at that time. As the Land Rover was very profitable, Jaguar was losing blood all the time and no body was looking forward to buy Jaguar! However, Ford packages them together as a promotion and whoever buys Land Rover was going to have Jaguar free!

At the same time, Tata was looking for automotive brands to expands its automotive division. However they were reluctant to buy Jaguar as you can imagine the reason! Tata decided to buy Jaguar and Land Rover after they see the potential demand on Jaguar XF model which was introduced  before the deal.

Now, Tata decided to move Land Rover and Jaguar production plants to China. And it will be the second foreign brand to be built in China after Volvo. However, unlike in any other business product of origin play significant role in luxury automotive industry. And mainly Land Rover was using this as an important asset to compete with Germans. After this decision, Land Rover and Jaguar's reputation might be adversely affected. Also in Chinese market, it may not receive the same demand as the brands are produced in China!

It is a very complicated decision to make. And I can see why Tata is trying to move it production plant outside of UK, but they should focus on East European countries to minimize the damage on product of origin. Producing Land Rover and Jaguar in China and selling to China may not have the same impact as exporting from UK.
